Surviving Day 4 and 5: Navigating through the Errors and Triumphs

After a maelstrom of coding and troubleshooting, we’ve made it to Day 4 and 5 of our music selecting chatbot journey! As we have continued, its clear that there have been some difficulties. Between syntax errors, logic mishaps, and a series of frustrating hurdles, we finally got past the first and main problematic hurdle yet: downloading SpaCy, the essential NLP program that will take our chatbot to the next level.

These two days have been packed with intense focus, moments of confusion, and a surge of progress that makes the effort worthwhile.

Setting the Scene: The Stress of Development

Writing code on paper sounds easy, but seeing it fail in real time is totally different. Balancing optimism with frustration is similar to reliving teenage years tensfold. The struggle with SpaCy, our chosen NLP library, was annoyingly daunting.

Initially, we thought the integration would be a straightforward, but much like people, we were quickly met with many red flags, setup issues, and compatibility problems. It felt like we were just a few steps away from the finish line but stuck behind an invisible wall constructed of code and errors.

Installing this library must be similar to Hamlet in his play when he slowly descends into madness.

Overcoming Installation Errors

Our attempts to install SpaCy led us down a winding path of situationships.

Firstly, we encountered Python version compatibility issues. SpaCy demanded a specific Python version. As a result, we had to research it through various websites and forums. After several attempts, we searched through GitHub repositories and forums to find solutions, which held the key to our success!

After that, we added our tokenized sentence prompt. Then we defined our own functions of user intents and ententies. The coding for both of these functions took some time to debug, but still, we were able to finish!

With SpaCy successfully installed, we should party like there's no tomorrow. Of course I mean get some ice cream and listen to LANA by SZA while in soaking in the bathtub. But remember, our coding journey is not yet complete!

Here is another quote leave you with this fair night:

“Do you think, because I am poor, obscure, plain and little, I am soulless and heartless? You think wrong! - I have as much soul as you, - and full as much heart! And if God had gifted me with some beauty and much wealth, I should have made it as hard for you to leave me, as it is now for me to leave you!”
